During a recent layover in LHR, I stopped at a bookstore in Terminal 5. They were having a buy-one-get-one-half-off sale, and I had spotted a new Clive Cussler book on the shelf. The only question was, what other book should I get with the sale? You’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover. …I know. But I didn’t want to bore David by reading the back of every book, and I had to choose somehow. I randomly picked one that looked intriguing and made my way to the cashier.
I’ve never been so pleasantly surprised by a book!
Curious, I started it right away. Best decision ever. I couldn’t put this book down. The characters have realistic depth from the get-go, and Deborah Rodriguez fabulously weaves a web of relationships, trust, femininity, and accomplishment as she follows the lives of Sunny, Yasmina, Isabel, Candace, and Halajan. Set in increasingly-dangerous Kabul, Afghanistan, Sunny owns a small coffee shop where these five women meet, confide in, and help one another.
The author’s personal story is absolutely fascinating (she went to Afghanistan with a medical team, got married, started her own hair salon, and fled when she learned of threats to kidnap her son and use him for ransom). Her experiences inspired this, her first work of fiction.
Go read it now. You won’t regret it.

I always treat myself to a book purchase at the airport bookstore to start my journey – like you, I choose one I’ve not heard of to expand my horizon :-). This one looks like a good read.
